Loan Watch: Stansfield back amongst the goals for Grecians

When Jay Stansfield scored the first of two goals against Barnsley in a 2-0 win for Exeter in October, the footballing world shed tears of pure happiness.

Having signed for Fulham in 2019 from the Grecians’ academy, Stansfield is the son of Exeter legend Adam Stansfield, who tragically passed away at the age of just 31 in 2010, whilst playing for Exeter City following a cancer diagnosis.

Stansfield is proudly following in his father’s footsteps however, scoring one and assisting one against Accrington Stanley on Saturday, to bring his total goal involvements up to five goals and six assists in 31 League One games this season – a return the 20 year old can surely be pleased with, in what is his first season with consistent first team minutes.

With Fulham pushing for European places in an ever-surprising Premier League, Stansfield may still find his play time limited at Craven Cottage; particularly given the form of super Serb Aleksander Mitrovic, who has managed to find his feet in the Premier League this season. However, performing as well as he is in an Exeter team in their maiden League One campaign, he’ll surely have Championship clubs potentially swooping in for a loan move in the summer.
